Family Therapy

A family is a system that sometimes functions as well or as poorly as each member. Family therapy is a unique space for several members of one family to work through issues that are affecting multiple members. Relationships that have been badly bruised get the coaching and care both people need to hear each other, heal, and move forward. New boundaries and roles can be assigned. Each member will learn his/her part of the cycle that has led the family to an uncomfortable place. Problematic behaviors are addressed. â€‹Members have an opportunity to practice new skills with each other.

Below are a few common issues that family members like to tackle in therapy:

  • Poor or unhealthy communication

  • The effects of separation or divorce

  • Secrets, shame, guilt

  • Empty nest syndrome

  • Abandonment

  • Parenting/co-parenting concerns

  • Parent-child relationships

  • Accepting same-sex attraction

  • Substance abuse issues

  • Roles and responsibilities

  • Unmet needs and expectations

  • Blended family issues

  • Rape/molestation

  • Managing illness/disability

  • Caring for elderly parents

  • Grief and loss

  • Unhealthy vs. healthy boundaries

  • Anxiety, stress, depression

  • Career shifts
