What is the difference between life coaching and therapy?
Therapy and life coaching both aim to support individuals in improving their lives, but they differ in focus, approach, and purpose. Therapy is a clinical service provided by licensed professionals who address mental health conditions, emotional challenges, and past trauma. It often involves diagnosing and treating psychological disorders, processing difficult emotions, and developing coping strategies for life’s challenges. Therapists work with clients to explore past experiences, identify patterns, and heal from distressing events that may be impacting their present well-being.

Life coaching, on the other hand, is a goal-oriented process designed to help individuals unlock their potential and achieve personal or professional aspirations. Unlike therapy, life coaching does not focus on mental health disorders or deep emotional healing. Instead, life coaches provide motivation, accountability, and strategic planning to help clients set and reach their goals. Coaching tends to be more future-focused, emphasizing personal growth, mindset shifts, and practical steps to improve various aspects of life, such as career success, relationships, or self-confidence.

At Covenant Therapy Group, we offer both therapy and life coaching because we recognize that individuals have different needs at different times. Therapy may be the right choice for those struggling with emotional distress, trauma, or mental health concerns, while life coaching is ideal for those who feel ready to take action and need guidance in achieving specific goals. While both services can be valuable, it’s important to determine which approach best suits your current situation. If you’re unsure which path is right for you, our team can help assess your needs and provide the appropriate support.
